US Reporter Kidnapped in Iraq

Saturday, Jill Carroll, 28, a freelance reporter on assignment for "The Christian Science Monitor" newspaper, was kidnapped in Iraq.

The incident took place in the al-Adel area in western Baghdad where she was supposed to have an interview with Adnan al-Dulaimi, a leading Sunni politician.

According to the police who were guarding the politician's residence, J. Carroll was returning from a failed interview when a red "Opel" blocked her car. Three armed men jumped out, shot and killed her interpreter, crowded her in the "Opel" and drove away.

So far no armed group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
