UNSC Authorized More Sanctions Against Iran

14 members of the UN Security Council voted “for” a resolution imposing additional sanctions against Iran over its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment activities. Indonesia, a non-permanent member of the Security Council, abstained (UNO official site reports).

The new sanctions include foreign travel bans on certain Iranian officials involved in the nuclear activities or missile technologies. They also include further freezing of assets belonging to certain physical and legal entities involved in the nuclear programme, and tighter monitoring of the respective financial institutions.

The resolution calls for all States “to exercise vigilance in entering into new commitments for public provided financial support for trade with Iran, including the granting of export credits, guarantees or insurance, to their nationals or entities involved in such trade ".

The Resolution call for all States “to exercise vigilance over the activities of financial institutions in their territories with all banks domiciled in Iran, in particular with Bank Melli and Bank Saderat, and their branches and subsidiaries abroad".
