Russian General Staff Specifies Russian Peacekeeper Casualties

Colonel-General Anatoly Nogovitsin, Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, said at a press-conference on August 13 that 74 Russian peacekeepers were killed, 171 were wounded and 19 are considered missed in action (MIA) to defeat the Georgian aggression in South Ossetia. The General said: "As of today, the casualties of our troops include: 74 killed, 171 wounded and 19 MIA".

The General pointed out that this casualty data is not final. "It is the data as of this morning. When we exchange the lists with the Georgian side, we will provide more accurate information", Nogovitsin said and added that as of today the General Staff cannot give detailed comment on the provided data.
