Medvedev: Russia Will Support Any Decision of South Ossetia and Abkhazia
The Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at his meeting with Eduard Kokoity and Sergey Bagapsh that Russia will support any decision on the status of South Ossetia and Abkhazia made by the peoples of these republics. "The stand of the Russian Federation hasn’t changed – we will support any decision on the status of South Ossetia and Abkhazia made by the peoples of these republics in accordance with the UN Charter, International Convention of 1966 and Helsinki Act of Security and Cooperation in Europe", the Russian President said in particular to the leaders of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The Head of State emphasized that Russia "will not only support but also guarantee them (the decisions) both in the Caucasus and worldwide", TV Channel Vesti-24 reports.
Besides, Dmitry Medvedev urged the world community to facilitate peace but not war. "As the President of the Russian Federation I rely on the constructive approach of our partners but all they are good for is to supply weapons to Georgia", he claimed and added: "To stop weapon supplies means to restore peace. It is necessary to facilitate peace but not war", the Russian leader said.
