The Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia: a Visit to Moscow was Important for our Country and Church

The Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II considers his visit to Moscow very important and useful for the country and the Georgian Church. It was declared by him on 24 November after returning from the Russian capital during his service in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. “We have paid special attention to the plight of refugees. We hope that their problems will be solved and the refugees will be able to return to their homes,” said the Patriarch.

At meetings with the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill, Ilia II discussed the possibility of reburial of the remains of the Georgian kings Vakhtang VI and Teimuraz II in Georgia. According to the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia, the kings were buried in Astrakhan, but in their will they asked to bury them at home. “We have transmitted all of our documents, and now our request is under consideration,” said Ilia II.

As reported by IA Regnum, the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia was in Moscow from 18 to 24 November. He took part in the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of Patriarch Kirill, as well as held several meetings, including with the Russian president.
