The Republic of Azerbaijan does not care of the ecological state of its sector of the Caspian Sea, said Deputy Chief of the Iranian Marine Environmental Protection Organization Abdolreza Karbasi in a recent report.
Karbasi said Azerbaijan carries out petroleum operations using the worn out equipment and does not take measures to clean the Caspian. The report notes that the recent studies of coastal areas in the province of Gilan in northern Iran have shown that a large number of oil patches appeared on the sea surface. Karbasi added that a paper on the assessment of the sea purification will be prepared, and the Iranian MFA will present it to Azerbaijan for fining.
The organization’s earlier reports published satellite photos, which show the massive oil patches heading to Iran from Azerbaijan.
