The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the entry into the Customs Union is not the main priority for the country
In answer to the statements that “Ukraine is allegedly forced by economic instruments such as gas” the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrei Denisov said: “No one makes anyone go, no one forces anyone, no one is trying to involve anyone anywhere, all the more so, to use any economic instruments.” According to him, the Customs Union members have the right on a mutual basis to provide each other with certain preferences and thereby promote mutual trade.
Denisov believes the Ukrainian authorities themselves should answer the question, why the decision on the participation in the Customs Union is not being taken, in spite of the economic benefits. “It’s a matter of choice, a matter of a modern, free and informed choice for each country,” he said.
Today, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the entry into the Customs Union is not the main priority for the country. “We ask not to construct unnecessary intrigue around the statements made by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Russia Volodymyr Yelchenk, who is an experienced diplomat, not accustomed to give unambiguous answers to complex issues,” said the Director of the Department of information policy of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin, commenting on the statement by the Ambassador about Ukraine’s possible accession to the Customs Union.
Earlier, Ambassador Yelchenko in communicating with students of Moscow State Linguistic University, said that, if the crisis in the EU continues, Ukraine can say “rather yes, than no” to joining the Customs Union.
