The Orthodox priests kidnapped in Syria were killed

According to the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), Metropolitan of Aleppo Paul Yazigi and Metropolitan Mark Gregory Juhani Ibrahim kidnapped in late April in the Syrian province of Aleppo were killed. The priests addressed humanitarian problems in the village of Kafr Dael, near the border with Turkey. On April 26, there was unconfirmed information in the media that the priests had been released.

As was reported to journalists on Sunday by Sergei Zheleznyak, deputy speaker of the lower house of parliament, who lead the Russian delegation at the 20th anniversary of the General Assembly of the IAO in Athens, after his return to Russia he will try to establish the accuracy of the information about the priests’ death. In his opinion, the attention of the international community should be drawn to this issue. “If we do not worry about the fate of these people who are missing now, and may be killed, these crimes will go unpunished,” said the deputy speaker.
