Today, on July 8, at the Moscow University for the Humanities, the first International Summer School of Public Diplomacy has been open for the leaders of non-governmental organizations of member countries, observer countries and dialogue partners of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The event was organized by the Foundation for Public Diplomacy and the Independent Organization in Support of the Civil Society, in association with the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Russian cooperation representation, the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation et al.
The school aims to promote higher standards of competence of the leaders of non-governmental organizations in joint efforts in the field of public diplomacy of the member states, observer states and dialogue partners of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. First of all, it concerns the implementation in practice of principles of the ‘Shanghai Spirit’, declared in the fundamental documents of SCO.
The main task of the School is to equip students with knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to carry out the mission of a public diplomat in the SCO space and beyond. The SCO public diplomats must be able to competently and skillfully promote the establishment and adjustment of the tightest multilateral relations between the countries and nations of the Organization; the development of trade and economic, scientific and technical, humanitarian, cultural and other cooperation; the construction of a region of long-term peace, friendship and prosperity and harmony.
The first School of Public Diplomacy of SCO has gathered more than 40 students from 13 countries. Here they participate in lectures, workshops, role plays, project presentations, round tables, thematic tour ‘Moscow diplomatic’ and other cultural events.
