Russia will continue providing Syria with assistance in the fight against terrorism, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said. "For our part, we are going to continue providing the Syrian government with assistance in fighting terrorist groups, led by the Islamic State and the Nusra Front. Undoubtedly, there should be neither delays nor concessions in this struggle," Churkin said at the session of the UN Security Council.
Churkin added that the United States should learn to assess the situation in Syria objectively. He called on Washington and other regional players to take a more positive approach and use their influence to persuade the Syrian opposition to give up a destructive course, which is delaying the conflict’s peaceful settlement.
"The United States, which is the co-chairman of the International Syria Support Group, needs to give up propaganda cliches at long last and learn to assess the situation objectively," Churkin noted.
The Russian diplomat also said that terrorists continue to move through national borders, get weapons and money and also have access rkin to chemical warfare agents, so it is necessary to put an end to that.
