Seoul defines the large-scale maneuvers of the Air Force Vigilant Ace 18 passing along the territory of the state as a measure of self-defense and does not take Pyongyang's criticism into its address. Such a statement was made by the official representative of the Ministry of the Association Paek Tae-hyun.
"Air Force maneuvers are conducted on a regular basis and are of a purely defensive nature, and the government will not comment on the reaction of North Korea to them," Hyun said.
The United States and the Republic of Korea are carrying out the most extensive maneuvers of the Air Force in the history of the military alliance of the two countries. Six F-22 Raptor fighters, as many unobtrusive fighter-bombers of the fifth generation F-35A and two strategic bombers B-1B Lancer take part in the exercises simultaneously. In general, more than 230 aircraft of the US Air Force and South Korea are involved in maneuvers.
Following from the State Defense Ministry's message, the allies "will work out various scenarios, including high-precision strikes" for educational purposes, representing copies of North Korean facilities related to the DPRK nuclear missile program, as well as models of mobile missile launchers.
North Korea sharply condemned the maneuvers, calling them "dangerous games," provoking a nuclear war
The exercises take place in an atmosphere of tension on the Korean Peninsula, related to the November 29 launch of the Hwaseon-15 intercontinental ballistic missile.
