Total Video Surveillance in the Underground

According to Dmitri Gayev, head of the Moscow underground system, this year video surveillance cameras will be installed in each car of the Circular Line of the Moscow underground.

"The program of the underground anti-terror protection has been drawn up to 2007. For that purpose, 1.7 billion Rubles have been allocated in the Federal Budget this year", said D. Gayev.

In his words, "the system of total video surveillance" will be installed in places where there are no permanent presence of the underground service personnel, that is it would be possible to watch over the passengers in each underground car.

D. Gayev also said that the passengers would not be affected by the installation of the security system. "There would be no addition checking of papers. The system is aimed at dissuading anyone from trying any unlawful activities on underground territory ".
