Memorial to Soviet Soldiers Desecrated in Estonia

Member of the Council of Russian Communities in Estonia, Gennadi Soukhov, says that Friday night the memorial to Soviet soldiers in the town of Tartu was desecrated.

"Unknown vandals drew obscene symbols on the monument to Soviet soldiers", said G. Soukhov. The monument had been erected in memory of the two thousand Soviet soldiers who died near Tartu during the Second World War. "I believe it to be a political act committed on the eve of the liberation of Tartu from Fascist occupants marked on August 25", said G. Soukhov. According to him, the monument in Tartu is an assembly point for Soviet war veterans who come to the monument each year to celebrate the Victory Day on May 9.
