Russia's export of foreign computer services has exceeded import by 0.5% for the first time in 9 years in 2017, the press service of the Russian National Research University Higher School of Economics said in a report on Wednesday.
Since 2016, the export rate has increased by 28%, TASS reports.
"The growth in its export potential shows positive trends in the development of the IT industry. For the first time in the past 9 years, export of computer services in foreign trade, though insignificantly (by 0.5%), exceeded imports: export has totaled $ 3,417 million, import - $ 3,398 million. Compared to 2016, these figures have increased by 28 and 11%, respectively," the research institute said in a statement.
In the structure of self-made products, the IT industry in 2017, approximately 45% was made up of services for the development and testing of software (software), a quarter of services for data processing, and placement of information.
"As for the domestic market, it is still dominated by imported software. In 2017, its share in the costs of business organizations in the purchase of software products reached more than 70%," the researchers said.
In 2016, 0.8% of the global export of information and communication technologies (ICT), in general, computer, telecommunication and information services, accounted for Russia. Ireland and India were the leaders on based on these indicators, with 14.4% and 11.2% respectively. This is followed by the Netherlands, the USA, Germany, China, Great Britain, France, which account for 3.4-7.8% of the global export of ICT services.
