Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that his proposal for the United States to calculate the range and speed of Russia's weapons is not a threat but rather a proposal to consider the possible consequences, TASS reported.
"This is not a threat. But if they create such threats to us, they need to know what will follow, so that they will not later accuse us of being overly aggressive or something else," Putin said at a meeting with representatives of Russian news agencies and print media.
When the US announced their decision, the Russian side understood the consequences of that decision, Putin noted. "We are telling them: guys, you should count. Can you count? You should count before you make a decision that would create additional threats to us," the Russian president added.
He said that the Russian side had already raised this issue to US partners behind closed doors. "Behind closed doors, we have already told them this long ago, in all honesty," Putin added.
Putin noted that "they are all adults there, and they can count." "They should count and make appropriate decisions only after they count. We'll see," he concluded.
