Medvedev Awarded 45 Most Honored Persons

On Wednesday in the Ekaterina Hall of the Kremlin, President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev awarded state decorations to 45 outstanding Russian citizens who displayed the best results in their professional and public activities.

Opening the solemn ceremony the Russian President said: “We are honoring the eminent citizens of Russia. This ceremony is attended by bright and notable persons, whose lives exemplify the best service”.

"I am confident that each of the attendees is the pride of Russia. And of course today is a remarkable day not only for you but also for your relatives, for those who is always close by you”, Medvedev pointed out.

Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Laverov and Director of Lencom Theatre Mark Zakharov, who recently celebrated his 75th birthday, received the Order of Service to the Fatherland I class.

The Gold Star Medal of the Hero of Russia was awarded to test pilots Colonel Oleg Mutovin and Vener Mukhametgareyev, Lieutenant-Colonel Andrei Volovikov and Major Valery Chukhvantsev.

The President especially mentioned the two last awardees saying that they honorably fulfilled combat tasks many times in the most severe conditions. “Their professional skill and courage saved soldiers’ lives”, Medvedev emphasized.

Six people were awarded the Order of Service to the Fatherland II class including producer Eldar Ryazanov and actor Yuri Yakovlev.

Finally Dmitry Medvedev wished good health, luck and happiness to all awardees.
