The Syrian government forces drove the rebels from the city of Aleppo and regained control over the city, Reuters reported. Militants of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) announced that they were forced to retreat. At the same time the website of the Iranian Press TV channel reports on the elimination of the militant leader, Abdel Jabbar al-Okaidi from Aleppo.
Earlier it was reported that both the authorities and the opposition consider the battles for Aleppo as crucial. In particular, in case of winning in Aleppo the militants were planning to take complete control of the city of Idlib located west Aleppo. This would allow them to build along the northwestern border with Turkey a "security zone" that would be used as a springboard for further battles.
