Russia Has Urged to Abandon the Unilateral Sanctions against Syria
Context:

At a regular meeting of the UN Security Council, Russian ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin called on the countries that had unilaterally imposed sanctions against Syria, to abandon them.

“These sanctions imposed bypassing the UN Security Council, have nothing to do with real efforts for promoting the settlement of the Syrian crisis - they only complicate the lives of ordinary people and deprive them of their ability to satisfy their basic demands and fully enjoy all basic human rights,” said the Russian permanent representative.

Recall that at the moment unilateral sanctions by the U.S., EU and the Arab League are applied against Syria. Washington has imposed a ban on Syrian senior officials’ access to their banking system, the EU has refused to import the Syrian oil, and the LAS has curtailed investment projects in the country and banned its members from doing business with the Syrian Central Bank.
