State Duma Declares Amnesty for Veterans

April 20 the Russian State Duma (parliament) unanimously voted for a decree granting amnesty to veterans on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

According to the decree, the amnesty will apply to convicted veterans and invalids of the Great Patriotic War, former prisoners of concentration camps and other places of forced confinement set up by Nazi Germany and its allies during the Second World War, inhabitants of besieged Leningrad, and persons who worked for at least six months during the period from June 22, 1941, to May 9, 1945, on the unoccupied territory of the USSR.

All in all, about 200 people will be released from custody.
