According to TASS, Russia is expected to produce about 58,000 freight railcars as of 2018 year-end, deputy department head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Vsevolod Babushkin told TASS on Monday.
"I think about 58,000 can be produced," the official said.
According to national statistics, 58,300 freight railcars were produced in Russia in 2017.
"Our position is that we should produce from 45 to 50 thousand [railcars] but these figures can probably be exceeded if the demand grows, which depends on greater carriage volumes," Babushkin said in a comment on potential railcars production next year. "I think the figure will be higher this year because the Transport Ministry predicts an increase in transportation volume. Accordingly, the rolling stock demand by operators and consumers has slightly increased," he noted.
