Russian mogul Oleg Deripaska wins invasion-of-privacy lawsuit against Belarusian couple

Context:

According to TASS, a Krasnodar court has partially granted Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska’s claim against Alexander Kirillov and Anastasia Vashukevich, better known as Alex Leslie and Nastya Rybka. Deripaska accused the two Belarusian citizens of illegally disclosing information about his private life without his consent. Kirillov and Vashukevich will have to pay 500,000 rubles (about $8,000) each in damages, Deripaska’s attorney Alexander Melnikov told journalists.

"The court has partly granted the claim, obliging the defendants to pay 500,000 rubles each," Melnikov said. According to earlier reports, Deripaska asked for 1 mln rubles (about $16,000) in damages from each defendant.

The lawyer stated that Vashukevich and Kirillov have to delete all videos, photos, and comments containing Deripaska's personal information. The court representative confirmed that the court ordered the defendants to pay 500,000 rubles in damages and delete the materials.

Deripaska’s defense is satisfied with the Krasnodar court’s decision. "In general, we are satisfied with the decision. There couldn’t have been a different one, because the defendants had no grounds to act as they did. They tried to use Deripaska’s good name for commercial purposes," Melnikov said.

On February 9, Deripaska filed a lawsuit against Anastasia Vashukevich and Alexander Kirillov over materials posted online related to the entrepreneur’s private life on social networks without his consent. Vashukevich and Kirillov posted private photos with Oleg Deripaska on their social network accounts and secretly made audio records of his conversations. The entrepreneur claims that he did not give any consent to disclose his personal information. Deripaska initially sued for 2 mln rubles (about $32,000) in damages, 1 mln rubles (about $16,000) from each defendant.
