Ships Will Be Protected against Torpedoes by Loudspeakers

The US agency for advanced military research reports having developed a completely new technology of protecting ships against torpedoes. Its main point is as follows: a series of loudspeakers, or, more precisely, devices capable of generating powerful acoustic waves are installed below the ship's waterline. When a torpedo has been sighted, the "loudspeakers" are switched on. The noise produced by them is capable of disabling the torpedo guidance system and even causing the torpedo detonating at a distance from the ship.

The agency experts claim that this technology has bright prospects: practically every ship can be equipped with such means of protection, the system is inexpensive and can be used for a long time.
