Can one trust the resolute American President Biden, who constantly assures that the United States is not waging a war against Russia? Of course not. Can one believe the allegedly indecisive German Chancellor Scholz that he is seeking to deescalate the military conflict in Ukraine by diplomatic means? No way. Suffice it to recall the additional $40 billion in military assistance the US Congress is ready to allocate to Ukraine, as well as the G7’s generous 30 billion euros. Who and how will disburse this amount is a different pair of shoes, but it significantly exceeds Russia’s entire military budget. Isn't this a war against our country?
NATO has deployed tens of thousands of its troops with heavy weapons in Eastern European countries, and now it is going to bring Sweden and Finland into the fold. It its goal to block the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Federation and the Kaliningrad region? How will Russia respond? Most likely, it will deploy tactical nuclear weapons at the western borders, especially given that US nuclear bombs have long been stored at Germany’s Ramstein airbase. If Washington suddenly decides to engage those, it will definitely neither ask the Germans for permission, nor report to Berlin about flight missions and attack targets. NATO does have bombing expertise in Europe, namely Operation Allied Force against Yugoslavia of 1999 that was launched without a UN mandate, by the way.
Another thing to recall is that the Americans invested $5 billion in preparing an armed coup in Kiev in 2014, with the eight subsequent years witnessing millions more injected in the rearmament of the Ukrainian army under NATO patterns and the training of its military in Ukraine itself and Eastern European countries plus in Germany, too. That’s it, preparations for a war against Russia, a war to the last Ukrainian. For the most part, Biden and Scholz personally refrain from bombastic anti-Russian rhetoric. They do not need it, because their satellite allies are already fiercely urging a punishment for Russia like a bunch of vultures, while "warming up" by demolishing monuments to Soviet liberator soldiers in their countries. They are ready to get thick as thieves with the Ukrainian Nazis, hoping to get away with so-much-hated Russia through their agency. The current US and European elites do not seem to watch money in this regard.
Meanwhile, two open letters signed by representatives of the German intellectual elite have been recently sent to Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The academics, although far from the military and propaganda frenzy of the media, wrote the following: “By supplying weapons, Germany and other NATO countries have de facto made themselves a side in the war. This war is fraught with a real danger of uncontrolled military escalation. And if people in power like you, Mr. Chancellor, do not put an end to this, there is going to be a great war, a nuclear one this time, and it will destroy human civilization”.
Even the utterly civilian academics having nothing to do with military science apprehend that, despite all the reports on its successes, the Ukrainian army is way below Russia’s and has no chance of winning this war. “Continued deliveries of arms and military support from NATO would prolong the war and make a diplomatic solution a long way off,” the letter reads.
However, as far as the peace talks are concerned, the German government will have none of it. "It is clear that sanctions can only be lifted if Russian troops leave the territory of Ukraine. Peace on Russia's terms will not bring security to either Ukraine or us, in Europe. The worst-case scenario is a possible new war – even closer to the German border," German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock told Bild am Sonntag newspaper. This Green Party lady has long been the herald of America’s aggressive policy against Russia. Curiously, the US elites cannot stand the "greens" at home but valuable Baerbock is treated gently in every possible way. Even more noticeable is the German authorities’ boundless tolerance towards Ukrainian neo-Nazis, even though German legislation itself does provide for criminal prosecution of fascist groups.
Tellingly, only deputies from the Alternative for Germany party and the Left Party opposed Baerbock’s militant rhetoric and the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine. However, the German Parliament still adopted a decision to this effect by a vast majority. Now, the entire Germany, including coalition partners as represented by the Greens and the Free Democrats (FDP), demands that Social Democrat Scholz make specific and prompt decisions on sending Leopard tanks and Cheetah self-propelled anti-aircraft cannons to Ukraine. The opposition CDU and CSU do not stand aside today either, contentedly watching the strife among members of the ruling coalition.
Commenting upon the Chancellor’s telephone talk with Vladimir Putin on May 13, German government spokesman Steffen Hebenstreit said the German side called for “working towards a ceasefire in Ukraine, improving the humanitarian situation and making progress towards a diplomatic solution to end the conflict.”
In parallel, the Chancellor is considering to allow the supply of Germany’s cute “catsies” (Cheetahs and Leopards) to Ukraine. This makes a bad combination with his call for a ceasefire, doesn’t it?
Perhaps Scholz would prefer to be shot out of the Slavic conflict, but the "red line" is getting increasingly closer. And how can this be done when tireless chief EU diplomat Josep Borrel, who called for defeating Russia on the battlefield, announces another huge tranche to Ukraine so that it could purchase heavy weapons?
