At a special press-conference in Sukhumi Abkhaz President Sergey Bagapsh claimed that this spring Georgian planned to seize control over Abkhazia. According to him, a respective plan worked out by the Georgian Defense Ministry has been picked up by the Abkhazian intelligence.
"The plan received by the Abkhazian special services through their facilities proves that Georgia shows interest in all territory of Abkhazia and not only the territory where Georgians live. To this end, simultaneous land attacks from the Zugdidi district and Kodori Gorge and amphibious assault landing on the coasts of the cities of Sukhumi, Gagra and Ochamchira are being planned” the Abkhaz President stressed
Bagapsh pointed out: "Georgia ranks first in the world. It bought up-to-date weapons and armament. The military infrastructure is being created on the border with Abkhazia.”
He said that from the middle of April 2008 Georgia increased the strength of its law enforcement units in the Kodori Gorge almost threefold from 700 up to 2,000 and deployed up to 12,000 servicemen in the regions bordering with Abkhazia.
Meanwhile, Segey Bagapsh expressed confidence that in case of Georgia’s aggression Abkhazia will be able to repel it.
The Abkhazia’s Armed Forces “are not self-organized self-defense forces of 1992,” Sergey Bagapsh emphasized and added : “We stopped Georgia’s tank armada by using sporting guns. Today we have professionally trained servicemen and our foes will meet with an adequate rebuff. We will not surrender our land to anybody ".
Bagapsh blamed on the Georgia’s leadership for repeated armed provocations both against the Abkhazia’s law enforcement units and Russian peacekeepers. He also said that Tbilisi intends to resume numerous flights of its reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles over Abkhazia for preparation of new plans of aggressions against the Republic.
In the opinion of Bagapsh, a series of recent provocations against Russian peacekeepers, and the explosions on the railway and in the cities of the unrecognized republics were arranged by Georgian special services .
"They have been designed to destabilize the situation in the zone of conflict in order to prepare the world opinion through mass media facilities to Georgia’s possible aggression against Abkhazia”, he said. Bagapsh pointed out that the news distributed by mass media on alleged secret talks between Georgia and Russia on division of Abkhazia into zones of influence is an act of disinformation. "an attempt to detract attention from preparation of an aggression against the Republic”, RIA Novosti reports. Let us recall that yesterday Sergey Bagapsh at his meeting with the Members of the German Federal Parliament also told about the evidence of the Georgia’s aggression plan available with Abkhazia.
According to him, “the strength of the Russian peacekeeping troops has been increased at the request of the Republic’s leadership”. He pointed out that “due to the efforts of the UN Secretary General’s Group of Friends and UN Observer Mission the situation within the zone of conflict has been stabilized for some time”.
At his meeting with German MPs Bagapsh confirmed that he is ready to a serious and peaceful dialogue with the Georgian side provided the latter also has such readiness. According to him, the Republic understands the concern of the West over the situation in the zone of Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. He pointed out that in recent months the situation was stable, but a month ago Abkhazia turned to be on the verge of the war with Georgia.
The Abkhaz President also emphasized the positive role of Russia in resolution of the conflict.
Today the Press-Service of the South Ossetia’s President recalled that a few months ago it reeported that the special services of South Ossetia managed to receive a plan of a military operation against the Republic of South Ossetia developed by Georgia.
According to a press-release distributed by the Press-Service of the South Ossetia’s President, South Ossetia “repeatedly told about this plan and actions elaborated by the Georgian leadership within the framework of preparation for the military operation ”.
“The Leadership of the Republic of South Ossetia never concealed the fact that the content of the Georgia’s plan is known to us, and we are ready to provide details of the plan to any concerned party. We hoped very much that promulgation of this plan in detail would make the Georgian leadership to abandon its criminal intention. Unfortunately it hasn’t happened”, the press-release reads.
“Everything that happens now is the successive step-by-step implementation of the Georgian plan of aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia. Please, recollect, that in accordance with this plan initially the number of Georgian law enforcement personnel stationed at different pretexts in the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia should radically increase. Under the plan the next step should be successive capture of commanding points and other strategic objectives – roads, mountain passes and populated areas”, the press-release reads. According to the Press Service, the next step “should be assassination of D. Sanakoyev by Georgian agents in such way that all suspicions would be cast on the South Ossetia’s leadership.
Simultaneously Tbilisi should attract attention of the world community to the acts of lawlessness and outrage with respect to political opponents allegedly taking place in the Republic of South Ossetia. The developments of recent weeks and especially of recent days demonstrate that Georgia is fulfilling its intentions. Radical increase of law enforcement service personnel and armored vehicles in the villages of Kohat, Eredvi, Prisi, Avnevi, construction of fortified positions in the villages of Egneti, Sveri and Kehvi, establishment of a new checkpoint at Sarabuk, all this confirms that the Georgian leadership is implementing its plan.”
“On July 3, Georgian special services made an attempt to assassinate D. Sanakoyev. Yet the assassination actually failed, the fact is that another action under the plan of the Georgia’s aggression against the Republic has been performed”, the Press-Service of the South Ossetia’s President reports.
Once again we get evidence that the Georgian leadership is not going to abandon its aggressive intentions, and makes all it possible to observe the benchmarks set by Tbilisi for itself.
Everything confirms that the D-day is close. The Georgian side actually refused to continue the talks and abandoned fulfillment of its commitments under the peacekeeping operation.
The next action under the Georgian plan should be assassination of key persons in the South Ossetia leadership. According to the plan of Tbilisi, if its puppet D.Sanakoyev is assassinated initially, and his assassination is followed by the murder of the South Ossetia leaders, Georgia will be able to convince the world community that South Ossetia is descending into the evil of internal civil war, and the Georgian leadership will have to introduce its troops in this region to avoid bloodshed.
In this connection, we want once again to attract attention of the world community to the aggressive policy pursued by the Georgian authorities and to vivid facts expressly confirming preparation of the Georgian troops to a military operation against the Republic of South Ossetia”, the Press Service stressed.
